Scrooge has appointed Donald to be his new vice-president of Graphic Graphite Precision, a fancy title for a pencil sharpener. While minding his new monotone job, Donald daydreams about how he ought to be a successful and respected businessman. After being fed up of pencils, he convinces Scrooge to give him another job, this time as a bill collector, and the first bill to take care of is at the Snob Club, now Donald sees his chance to finally get ahead when it comes to status and in life.
